HCAs - tell us what you're doing to get them ready for patient care

20 / 9 / 2013 9.49am

NHS Employers is working with the team that are taking forward some of the recommendations from the Cavendish Review and we are providing examples of some of the work trusts are taking forward in this area. To enable us to provide a fuller picture of the action being taken forward it would be helpful if you could provide some feedback around the following questions:

  1. What do you offer to new HCAs (particularly those who have never worked in health and social care settings) through your recruitment/ induction to ensure they are ready to provide safe patient care?
  2. How do you assess HCAs’ knowledge, understanding and behaviour before they work with patients?
  3. How long are your induction programmes?

We will use the information gathered to feedback key themes to the team taking forward some of the Cavendish Review recommendations rather than identifying individual organisations.

Please send responses to Hanna Murphy hanna.murphy@nhsemployers.org by Wednesday 2 October.
