As part of the Budget 2013, the Government announced that it will introduce a new tax-free childcare scheme for working families.

Following this announcement, HMT ran a consultation inviting interested parties to comment on the detailed design and operation of tax-free childcare. Where both parents work and do not receive tax credits, they will be able to register with a provider directly and purchase tax-free vouchers up to an annual limit. As part of this process, employer-supported childcare (such as childcare voucher salary sacrifice schemes) will be phased out.
