The oral hearing took place between the DDRB and employers today. Gill Bellord, director of employment relations and reward for the NHS Employers organisation, told the DDRB:

“Patients must be at the centre of everything the NHS does, including pay reviews. We are again urging the DDRB to not recommend any pay rise for hospital doctors and instead support changes to contract to achieve better seven-day care .

“Our contract negotiations with the BMA are happening right now and this is the opportunity for consultants to start agreeing greater presence during evenings and weekends. We hope the DDRB will tell doctors that change needs to be embraced in negotiations especially removing contractual obstacles to improving care."

NHS Employers submitted evidence to the DDRB in September, gathered through a continuing programme of employer engagement with the full range of NHS organisations on their priorities for national pay and conditions of service.
