The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) is currently developing its Accredited Voluntary Register and has outlined the process leading to its implementation in summer 2014.
In line with the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA) systems and guidance, the Academy is working closely with professional bodies, existing voluntary registration bodies and the wider healthcare science community.
What this means for employers
Over the next few months, the healthcare science community will be able to engage in this process by responding to an upcoming consultation due on the 1 December 2013, and by attending related AHCS events where possible.
On implementation of the practitioner register, students who successfully complete the Practitioner Training Programme, or who obtain a relevant Certificate of Equivalence will be able to join the voluntary register. The register is being developed so that the public, workforce planners, employers and commissioners can select practitioners who have been independently assessed and quality assured.
