The NHS Confederation published a report last year reviewing the bureaucratic burdens placed on providers of NHS care by national bodies. This was as a result of the Francis report and concluded that
data and information needs to help rather than hinder patient care and unnecessary bureaucracy should be removed in order to provide staff with more time to care for patients. You can read more and download a copy of the report here.
We all recognise that overly bureaucratic systems within the NHS can stifle creativity and the ability to see the bigger picture and that this can be detrimental to achieving the strategy and vision of an organisation as a whole. This ultimately leads to worse outcomes for patients.
Stepping away from this and into the 'OD Mindset,' as eloquently described by Megan Peppin in her brilliant blog for Do OD, can create energy and a space within which ideas flourish and organisational effectiveness can be improved.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on how to introduce and use the 'OD Mindset' within your organisation. You can share your thoughts, challenges and questions in our Linked In group, join in the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #DoOD or get in touch by emailing us Do.OD@nhsemployers.org
