The latest review of mileage allowance rates has been completed and has seen a reduction in the standard rate of reimbursement, rates for miles travelled over 3.500 miles in a year, and the motorcycle and reserve rates.

These lower rates apply to journeys made by employees on NHS business on and after 1 July 2014. The changes are outlined in Pay and Conditions Circular (AfC) 2/2014, and the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service Handbook will be updated shortly to reflect this.

We have created a summary of the changes to mileage allowances, and updated our FAQs.

We have also developed a helpful poster, to explain how mileage allowance is calculated.
