In order to better record the reasons members leave the NHS Pension Scheme, NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) has made a change to the SD502  - Application to leave the NHS Pension Scheme (opting out form) and corresponding employers guidance for completion. The changes have also been made to the ESR existing opt out file on the leavers interface. This will be available from July 2014.

The updated SD502 form will now ask the member to tick the reason for opting out of the scheme. The list of reasons will be the same as those seen on the ESR opt out file.

ESR users will no longer be required to send their SD502 forms to NHS Pensions, but will need to keep the form for up to seven years.

Non ESR users will still need to complete Part 2 of the form and send it to NHS Pensions.

Further information is available in the June 2014 NHSBSA Employer newsletter.

The updated forms are available to download from the Leaving the Scheme section of the NHSBSA website.
