Industrial Action in Local Government and Schools on 10 July

Staff listening to a man with a megaphone

04 / 7 / 2014 9.37am

Some employers have asked us about the proposed strike  action being planned by unions representing staff working in local government, schools, the fire and rescue service and civil service on 10 July. NHS Staff will not be involved in this industrial action.

The interruption to local government services could have potential implications for some NHS organisations. The potential closure of some schools is likely to have some impact on staff who may need to make alternative child care arrangements. Organisations will have to consider and communicate to staff, for example, the  approach you take to requests for planned or emergency leave for the 10 July.

Trades unions in the NHS are in a formal dispute over pay and are planning some form of industrial action, later in this year. We will let you know when there is further information on this. We have recently issues new guidance on the legal issues around handling industrial action.
