GP earnings and expenses for 2012/13 have been published today by the Health & Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).

 

 

 

The key headlines are:

  • the average income before tax of contractor GPs (UK) was £102,000 in 2012/13, a drop of 0.9 per cent on 2011/12
  • the gross earnings of GPs went up 1.4% however their expenses went up 2.9%
  • in 2012/13 there was a 0.5% gross uplift to contract values with the intention of zero uplift to pay. This was agreed through negotiation.

The HSCIC has also published the investment in general practice report for 2013/14, which shows:

  • the total spend on the GP contract (including the cost of drugs) was £8,752.9m in England, compared to £8,459.3m in 2012/13 (an increase of 3.47 per cent).
