The Institute for Health Visiting (iHV) has published two frameworks to support health visiting providers to offer robust preceptorship and induction programmes to their new staff.

The documents were commissioned by Health Education England, and supported by the Department for Health. They have been developed in close partnership with a wide range of health visiting and education professionals.

The Preceptorship Framework and Induction Framework have been released in draft format, while they are being piloted in practice by 9 organisations in England. Other providers are encouraged to use them, and will be invited to contribute to a final review in November, with a view to the final frameworks being released by January 2015.

Investing in staff from the beginning of their careers, and getting it right from the start, can have a great impact on the quality of care they provide to the patients and communities they serve.  We know that many employers have robust preceptorship programmes in place, and some have started to map their own offers to these iHV frameworks.
