NHS Employers was recently invited to respond to a call for evidence from the think-tank Demos following launch of their new cross-party commission on apprenticeships. The commission’s terms of reference are as follows:

  • To explore how best to maximise the power and prestige of apprenticeships in the UK in the context of the current reforms
  • To establish the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders, including employers, training providers, unions, sector councils, government bodies, and others in achieving this.

Demos will act as secretariat for this commission, providing research support and drafting of a final report in late 2014. The report will make recommendations to local and national policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders, on how to increase the number of high quality apprenticeships in the UK.

NHS Employers response was compiled following consultation with employers across the NHS. Many thanks to all those who input their views.
