The Choice 2 exercise is providing NHS Pension Scheme members in the 1995 section, without full protection, the opportunity to consider moving their 1995 section benefits into the 2008 section of the NHS Pension Scheme. It is important that employers work in partnership to deliver the relevant Choice 2 messages to members. This is an important exercise and it is essential that members access all the resources available on the NHS Pensions website, to support their decision.

David Wherret and Christina McAnea, the joint Chairs of the NHS Staff Council, have commented as follows:

‘The NHS Staff Council is urging all members of the NHS Pension Scheme eligible for Choice 2 to make their decision carefully. The choice they make may have a significant effect on how much pension an individual receives at retirement.

Pensions are a big part of an employee’s future income. For staff who know they will be working longer, Choice 2 may offer bigger pension benefits. We want NHS pension scheme members to use this opportunity to make the most of their pensions and consider what the best decision will be for them and their families.'

Resources to support employers are available on our Choice 2 webpage and these include a copy of the recent webinar presentation. The webinar was delivered in partnership between NHS Employers, NHS Pensions, employer and trade union representatives.

The deadline for all Choice 2 decisions is 16 March 2015.
