NHS staff sickness absence has risen by 0.2 per cent in the year to July 2014.
The latest figures released by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) show an increase in overall sickness absence, rising to 4.08 per cent in July 2014 from 3.88 percent in June 2013.
The data considers sickness absence rates and total days lost by staff group, Health Education England (HEE) region and organisation. As the NHS is always open to the public, the data is based on a 365-day financial year.
The data tells us that:
- the lowest staff sickness rate of any group were medical and dental staff at 1.24 per cent, increasing from 1.21 per cent in July 2013
- at 3.37 per cent, North Central and East London has the lowest regional sickness absence while the North West has the highest at 4.81 per cent.
