36 pregnant women died from flu in three years

A report published by MBRRACE-UK* shows how fatal the flu virus can be for pregnant women. Thirty-six pregnant women died between 2009 – 2012 with strains of the flu virus that the current vaccine protects against. None were known to be vaccinated.

Public Health England's (PHE's) latest surveillance report indicates that flu is beginning to circulate more widely and urges more pregnant women to have the flu vaccination this winter.

It’s not too late to protect yourself, your family and your patients. See your occupational health department for more information on how you can get your flu vaccination. Always follow hand hygiene procedures and ensure that you exclude yourself from the workplace if you have symptoms of flu.
