End of year message from Jane Cummings

Dear Care Makers

2014 has been a year of remarkable and encouraging progress by Care Makers, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your ongoing commitment and enthusiasm. I am pleased that I have been able to meet so many of you at events during the past 12 months.

There are now around 1,400 Care Makers compared to 300 this time last year. But the growth is not only in terms of numbers, impressive though this is. Care Makers started with student nurses and newly qualified staff, but this has now grown to include doctors, therapists, consultants, chaplains, service users, patient representatives, finance directors, CEOs and non-executive directors.

This growth shows that the values of the 6Cs have universal appeal across the health and social care system.

In the year ahead, I encourage you to keep living the 6Cs and support others by taking every opportunity to share what you are doing and the difference you are making. You can do this by linking up with your regional co-ordinators, completing the Care Makers activity log, sharing on social media and through the Care Makers newsletter. You could also consider submitting examples of your work for the monthly ‘6Cs in Action: Celebrating Excellence’ story.

I wish you all a happy and healthy festive season and New Year, and look forward to working with you in 2015. Thank you for all you do to make compassionate care a reality for so many.

Jane Cummings
