NHS England has published the new health visiting (HV) service specification for 2015-16.
Health visitors have a key role to play in the development of children in their early years, and support for their families. This document, contextualised to meet local service user needs, will shape the provision of HV services in the next financial year. NHS England has specified that it should also be delivered in the context of new commissioning arrangements, which include responsibility of 0-5 commissioning transferring from the NHS to local authorities from October this year.
The new service specification aims to support an integrated approach to meeting the needs of young children and their families and the delivery of improved outcomes. Health visitors will continue to lead delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP), and work in partnership with maternity services, local authority-provided or commissioned early years services and other key partners to deliver a holistic and effective service.
The document is an updated version of last year’s specification. You can access the HV service specification via the NHS England website, where there is also a version showing where changes have been made to the latest iteration.
