The Department of Health has launched a consultation on planned changes to the NHS Constitution. This is in response to the Francis report following events at Mid Staffordshire Hospital.

The planned changes include new responsibilities for staff such as a requirement to follow all ‘guidance, standards and codes’ relevant to an individual's job role. There are not any substantive changes proposed for the Staff Pledges.

Employers have the opportunity to share their views on the planned changes, if you would like to provide feedback please email

More detailed information on the consultation can be found in A consultation in updating the NHS Constitution.
