The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has published a partial review of the shortage occupation lists for the UK and Scotland.

MAC has recommended some additions to the shortage occupation lists for health sector roles, but the publication of this review will not result in any immediate amendments. The content and recommendations of the review will now be considered by the Government and will help inform future decisions on the addition or removal of jobs.

This review was commissioned by the Government in September 2014 and employers in the NHS were invited to contribute to the review by submitting evidence.

The shortage occupation list is an official list of occupations for which there are not enough resident workers to fill vacancies. Employers can still recruit workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to roles not on the list, as long as the resident labour market test conditions are met.
