Kate Lampard has published her second report ‘Lessons learnt’, investigating the abuse of individuals by Jimmy Savile on NHS premises.
14 recommendations have been made, which will apply to NHS organisations, system regulators and other professional bodies.
The report has been published alongside 16 further independent investigations into reports from NHS organisations, including Stoke Mandeville.
It looks into Jimmy Savile’s role as both a volunteer and a fundraiser for the NHS, and outlines the horrific scale of how he abused his celebrity status to gain access, influence and control in a number of NHS hospitals over a period spanning 30 years or more. It also reflects on the significant improvements and existing good practice in the NHS since this first came to light; and the need to draw on lessons learnt.
