The flu fighter Cymru awards 2015 took place today at The Temple of Peace and Health, Cardiff and we are pleased to announce the winners!

Best flu fighter Cymru team award

  • Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
The occupational health team at Betsi Cadwaladr trained local vaccinators across acute and community settings to ensure the vaccine was accessible, and by the end of the season had 92 local vaccinators in place.

Flu fighter Cymru champion award

  •  Ursula Arnold, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board
Ursula is a determined champion with unwavering dedication and commitment. In the emergency department this flu season, she vaccinated 98 per cent of nurses, 99 per cent of medical staff and 100 per cent of consultants.

#flufighter Cymru digital award

  • Cwm Taf University Health Board
The communications team used a variety of ways to promote the campaign and encourage uptake, including a weekly blog, screensavers, a Flickr flu album, presentations on local radio and a Twitter #flujabselfie campaign.

Most improved flu fighter campaign award

  • Powys Teaching Health Board
This team used the flu campaign to encourage staff to think about their overall health and wellbeing. They gave out free pedometers to everyone who had the vaccine and used the slogan 'walk away from flu'.

Most innovative flu fighter Cymru campaign award

  • Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
The staff flu vaccination group implemented a new procedure that required staff to complete a form if declining the vaccination. This enabled concerns to be discussed and gave an insight into the reasons why people declined the vaccine which will help inform future campaigns.

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone that submitted entries and took part in the flu fighter Cymru awards 2015. We will provide a more detailed account with accompanying photos of the day on the flu fighter Cymru pages.
