The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) has written a letter to employers and an article for healthcare scientists and practitioners, highlighting the importance of professional registration and how to apply.

There are many healthcare scientists and healthcare science practitioners who completed their training before the Modernising Scientific Careers framework was introduced, and who are not currently registered with the AHCS.

The AHCS now offers an equivalence programme for these staff that validates their existing qualifications, training and experience. This can lead to eligibility to apply for registration with either the Health and Care Professions Council (for clinical scientists) or the Academy's own voluntary, accredited register (for healthcare science practitioners).

What this means for employers

These registers help employers ensure their staff are competent and committed to providing excellent care for patients. They also ensure staff have access to the various career progression opportunities available.

Further information

Further information on equivalence can be found in our Academy for Healthcare Science web pages and on the Academy for Healthcare Science website. You can also read about voluntary registration on our voluntary registers web page, including the role of Professional Standards Authority who has recently accredited the AHCS practitioner register.
