Shared parental leave - new statutory rights from 5 April 2015

26 / 3 / 2015 3.10pm

For parents of babies due to be born on or after the 5 April 2015, there will be a new statutory right to shared parental leave. This allows an eligible women/primary carer to curtail their maternity leave/adoption leave in order to be able to allow their partner to take shared parental leave.

Shared parental leave can be taken at any time in the first year following the child’s birth/placement and allows for up to a maximum of 50 weeks' leave to be shared between partners along with the statutory pay.
