With recent media coverage of the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in the UK, we are once again highlighting our popular back in work back pack. According to recent figures from the Office for National Statistics almost 31 million days of work were lost in 2013 due to back, neck and muscle problems, costing the UK economy £14bn a year.
Back pain is more important than you might think, especially when it starts to become a problem for people at work. It’s one of the most common causes of sickness absence and 80 per cent of the population will suffer with back pain at some point in their lives.
Our back in work back pack is divided into six parts and outlines the measures employers and employees need to take in order to reduce the incidence of work-related back and musculoskeletal disorders. Access the six sections from the links below:
• Part 1 of 6: Introduction and key messages
• Part 2 of 6: The staff guide
• Part 3 of 6: The line managers guide
• Part 4 of 6: The safety representatives guide
• Part 5 of 6: Workplace and individual assessment tool
• Part 6 of 6: Further information and quick links
Within the back pack you can find information on reducing the incidence of sickness absence related to back and musculoskeletal conditions and protect staff from painful and often long-term health problems.
Our sickness absence tool gives you more information on how back problems can affect your organisation.
