To support Dementia Awareness Week we have created new resources and thought pieces for employers and employees with caring responsibilities. Use these guides and accounts of real life experiences to help enable employees continue in their role within the NHS and support a clear commitment to providing an inclusive workplace.
In the UK, there are about 800,000 people with dementia, it is estimated that around 400,000 people have dementia but do not know it. For many the image of dementia can cast a very bleak outlook, the symptoms can be progressive and on an unknown time scale. So it can be surprising to learn that even as dementia progresses, many people lead active, healthy lives and continue working well.
Dementia Awareness Week 2015 runs from 18-24 May and is coordinated by the Alzheimer’s Society. Its aim is to raise awareness and understanding of dementia, and to offer support and services to those living with dementia. You can support the week with a text donation or get involved with their fundraising activity. You can also follow the conversation on twitter using the hashtag #DoSomethingNew and #DAW2015.
