Universal credit: benefits for claimants and employers

Employer organisations could benefit from the introduction of the new universal credit in a number of ways:

  • Job seekers will be willing to consider short-term or irregular work, making it easier for employers to fill their vacancies.
  • Flexible working opportunities can be identified by using existing part-time employees to cover overtime and extra shifts at peak periods, without the overheads associated with recruiting and training new staff. 

This new single monthly payment introduced by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is for people who are on a low income or out of work. It aims to ensure that people will be better off in work than claiming benefits.
