Changes to NHS Jobs pre-employment check process

NHS Jobs and the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) have made improvements to the interface between their systems.

HR staff using ESR to carry out pre-employment checks on candidates applying to work with them will find that:

  • application forms now need to be downloaded to ESR first in order to start the pre-employment checks process
  • right to work and DBS checks must be started in NHS Jobs first, before the information from these checks can be transferred back from ESR
  • professional registration checks may be rejected by ESR if a record already exists for that employee
  • identity checks are not currently supported and Occupational Health will only transfer from ESR to NHS Jobs.

These improvements have been included in guidance issued to HR staff who use ESR to carry out pre-employment checks on candidates applying to work with them and to support their recruitment processes.
