Line managers are really important.

Good line managers contribute hugely to the success of an organisation in a number of different ways. They motivate and energise their teams, develop people in their teams and providing a clear line of sight between the team’s activities and the organisation’s overall purpose.

But what is it like, as a line manager in the NHS to foster staff engagement with their teams?

Here are some of the challenges line managers presented:

  • the senior management team could engage with line managers better
  • more people management training.
  • high performing teams need to be recognised by the senior management team.

Our new briefing highlights research which looks at the experiences of 90 line managers across six trusts in the UK and presents the common challenges they face in developing good engagement with staff.
