Public Health England has reported the first set of flu vaccination uptake figures for the 2015 / 16 season. The report shows that more than 312,203 (32.4 per cent) frontline staff have received the vaccine since the beginning of September.

Experts are confident in this year’s vaccine, despite initial concerns that reports in 2014 showed the previous season’s vaccine to be temporarily less effective due to an unexpected strain evolving within the virus. Later reports in the 2014/15 season showed the final efficacy to be over 30 per cent effective.

The flu vaccination is the best protection available for NHS staff to protect themselves, family and patients, and it is great to see that frontline staff are showing their commitment in the fight against flu.
