Our congratulations go to Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for gaining the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold award from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The Employer Recognition Scheme is overseen by the Defence Relationship Management (DRM) team at the MoD, and celebrates outstanding commitment to the Armed Forces community. Gloucestershire Hospitals is the second trust to gain the gold award, and joins Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in showcasing an excellent level of reservist support.
Led by Dr Mike Seeley, associate director of HR, and with guidance from NHS Employers and DRM, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust began creating a standalone reservist policy. The policy shows support for reservists and accommodates their training commitments, including the two-week annual camp. The trust has also been instrumental in linking HR staff and line managers with local units, and creating an NHS medical reserves committee to facilitate both training and engagement opportunities between the Armed Forces community and the NHS.
The trust is visibly supportive of reservists and pledges its commitment to the Armed Forces community through its website, ensuring that the organisation is an employer of choice for reservists in the area. This is crucial in recruiting reservists to the trust, as line managers and the executive board both recognise the benefits that reservists training and service can bring to the NHS.
In response to the announcement, Dr Seeley said: "This hugely prestigious award recognises the commitment of those in our organisation who in some way support the armed forces, whether it be serving personnel, veterans or family members. We are particularly proud to support our medical reservists, nurses, doctors and others who dedicate their time and skills to helping others in need."
