The HSJ has announced the winners of the 2015 awards which were held on Wednesday 18 November 2015 in London. This year the awards attracted an all time record of 1,603 entries spread across 25 categories and recognised achievements of both individual leaders and organisations.

The NHS Confederation sponsored the 'chief executive of the year' category which was awarded to Sheena Cumiskey, head of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Foundation Trust. Sheena beat off stiff competition and was recognised for her inclusive leadership style, whole-system outlook and inspirational approach to work.

Stephen Dalton, chief executive of the Mental Health Network, said: “Sheena is an arch collaborator with the wider system and her understanding of the social determinants which shape health outcomes is a focus for her leadership style.”

Sheena has 19 years experience as a chief executive in the health service, she is also chair of the

North West Leadership Academy and has been involved in a number of regional and
national bodies. Under her leadership, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Foundation Trust
became the first mental health trust to go completely smoke-free.
