‘Responding to Concerns’, is a new educational film developed by Health Education England that aims to improve patient safety. Developed with input from patient safety experts, including our raising concerns network, the film aims to equip staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to adequately and safely respond to patient safety concerns.
A sequel to HEE's first patient safety video, ‘Responding to Concerns’ follows the same three scenarios as they unfold. The video features a manager dealing with the challenges of effectively responding to concerns about an experienced community nurse not washing her hands, a surgical never-event near miss, and poor communication between services. To reflect the varied nature of patient safety concerns, the film provides some broad learning points that can be applied to a range of scenarios. Themes include dealing with personal conflict, preventing bullying, the importance of good communication and realistic time frames. Further information and free resources are listed at the end.
