Pharmacy flu vaccination service recommissioned

10 / 5 / 2016 Midnight

NHS England has confirmed that the community pharmacy seasonal flu vaccination service has been recommissioned for 2016/17.

The service allows adult patients in an at-risk group, including all patients aged 65 or over at the end of the relevant financial year, to access their NHS seasonal flu vaccination from their local community pharmacy. In the first year of this nationally commissioned service, which ran from September 2015, almost 500,000 patients were vaccinated in community pharmacies in England.

The service specification has been jointly developed and published by NHS Employers, Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) and NHS England. The Immunisation against infectious disease Green Book includes details on the background, dosage, timings and administration of the vaccination.
