NHS Employers is carrying out a survey to discover how we can best support NHS organisations to prepare for, and implement, policy changes around apprenticeships.

The online survey, which is aimed at chief executives and HR directors, contains five key questions and should only take around five minutes to complete.

Your input will help us develop a national offer of support for NHS provider organisations to assist you with the recruitment and retention of apprentices.

Complete the survey.

The policy changes

The government has committed to delivering three million apprentice starts by 2020, across all industries. To help meet this policy aim, an apprenticeships levy and public sector apprenticeship targets are being introduced.

  • The apprenticeships levy is payable from April 2017 and will be charged at 0.5 per cent of the total pay bill.
  • An apprenticeship target which will apply to each public sector organisation is proposed at 2.3 per cent of headcount (subject to the outcome of a recent consultation).

We recently produced a briefing for board members summarising the key features of the new policy and how these will impact on NHS organisations. This briefing can be used to raise awareness amongst board members and suggests some actions they may wish to take.
