A new briefing outlines key areas for consideration, to ensure sustainability of health and care staff and services in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland following the UK’s exit from the European Union.
With the UK’s only land border with an EU country, and the potential for new border controls if the UK adopts a ‘hard Brexit’, the challenges facing Northern Ireland are significant and unique within Europe.
While the debate around the nature and impact of the EU exit will intensify following the triggering of Article 50 next week, senior health and care representatives from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland came together on 21 February to discuss the key issues and identify any potential early actions that could be helpful.
This briefing summarises the main points of discussion, which will be presented to the Cavendish Coalition for consideration as part of the group’s ongoing work to ensure sustainability of health and care services, following the UK’s exit from the EU.
