Learning Disability Week 2017, from 19 to 25 June, is focusing on improving employment prospects for people with a learning disability.

Mencap is asking employers to support the week by raising awareness of the benefits of employing people with a learning disability, with the ultimate aim of tackling the low levels of employment there currently are.

How to get involved:

  • follow the action on social media using #LDWeek17 and share your stories
  • download the resources from the Mencap website
  • get in touch with Mencap to share your stories of working with people with a learning disability
  • consider the possibility of offering work placements or paid opportunities for people with a learning disability.

During the week Mencap will be sharing:

  • new research that highlights the benefits of employing people with a learning disability
  • stories from employers about their experiences of employing people with a learning disability
  • stories from employees with a learning disability about their experiences in paid work
  • a new series of accessible guides for people with a learning disability about finding work.
You can find some more information about employing people with a learning disability on the diversity and inclusion web page.
