In November 2016, NHS England published the Commissioning for Quality and Innovation (CQUIN) scheme for the next two financial years.
There are three indicators within the improving staff health and wellbeing section. This payment is assigned as 0.25 per cent of the total provider budget. These are:
- Improvements in staff health and wellbeing, relating to mental health, musculoskeletal disorders and overall staff wellbeing
- Introduction of healthier food choices
- An increased flu vaccination uptake rate.
Each indicator has a weighting of 33.3 per cent of 0.25 per cent (0.0833 per cent) of the total provider budget.
The improvements in staff health and wellbeing will be measured using the NHS staff survey, where trusts need to demonstrate a 5 per cent improvement in two out of three health and wellbeing questions over two years.
There will be a continued focus on flu vaccination targets for frontline healthcare workers that will be matched with progressive payments.
For the 2017/18 season these are:
- 50 per cent uptake or less = no payment
- 50 to 60 per cent uptake = 25 per cent payment
- 60 to 65 per cent uptake = 50 per cent payment
- 65 to 70 per cent uptake = 75 per cent payment
- 70 per cent uptake or above = 100 per cent payment
For the 2018/19 season these are:
- 50 per cent uptake or less = no payment
- 50 to 60 per cent uptake = 25 per cent payment
- 60 to 65 per cent uptake = 50 per cent payment
- 65 to 75 per cent uptake = 75 per cent payment
- 75 per cent uptake or above = 100 per cent payment
