New guidance for employers on retire and return

The guidance, released today by the Department of Health, aims to help employers put in place policies to consider applications from staff and justify their decisions to re-employ staff based on value for money, service needs and patient care.

There are benefits for both employers and employees, including:

  • retaining valuable skills and knowledge in the NHS
  • supporting the health and wellbeing of older workers who wish to continue to work
  • helping to manage overall workforce costs
  • supporting staff with the transition from work to retirement.
