Support for Strategic Health Authorities
There have been many changes in personnel at Strategic Health Authority (SHA) level, following the recent reconfiguration. This has included those responsible for job evaluation and Agenda for Change.
Job evaluation issues are still on the agenda in England and it is the SHAs responsibility to continue to support trusts on Agenda for Change issues.
NHS Employers continues to offer advice and support on outstanding or forthcoming issues, including what to do with banding problems and mainstreaming job evaluation.
If you would like any further support or advice please contact Eleanor Ransom, Job Evaluation Manager for NHS Employers. You may also find the advice provided on mainstreaming job evaluation useful, which was issued by the NHS Staff Council in 2006.

About the Job Evaluation Group

Its membership includes representatives of the health service, the four UK health departments and representatives of the NHS joint unions.
Advice on Maxillofacial Prosthetist
The Executive of Staff Council asked the Job Evaluation Consistency Monitoring Group to investigate outcomes on CAJE in respect of maxillofacial prosthetist and technologist (MPT) jobs.
Matching under factor two
This section provides advice to employers on two matters relating to Job Evaluation. Firstly, using number of years service as a rationale for justifying a certain factor level and secondly the use of person specifications to assess the level of knowledge required for a given post.
Orthopaedic Technician role
This section below includes advice that has been issued and prepared by the Job Evaluation Group (JEG) on how to match and evaluate orthopaedic technician jobs.
CAJE - cleaning data
A robust a 'clean up' exercise has taken place to reconfigure CAJE data in line with the newly formed Strategic Health Authorities, ambulance trusts and Primary Care Trusts. We have put together some points to consider when carrying out this exercise:
Advice on evidence for reviews
There have been instances where the Agenda for Change review process has not been carried out correctly, which has resulted in some factor levels being changed without any evidence being submitted. The Job Evaluation Group (JEG) has put together some advice to remind panels of the procedures.
Psychotherapy posts
Following some national consistency monitoring into the outcomes of psychotherapy posts, carried out by the Job Evaluation Group, trusts are recommended to revisit their psychotherapy outcomes and satisfy themselves that they have matched these posts to the appropriate profiles.
Advice on perfusion outcomes
The NHS Staff council has agreed advice following the consistency monitoring of approved outcomes of perfusion jobs on CAJE carried out by the Job Evaluation Monitoring Group.
