The review partners are looking at three main areas in the partnership review of ill health retirement, injury benefit and sickness absence in the NHS.
- Developing an improved process for handling sickness absence, focusing on prompt intervention and rehabilitation
- Changes to the current ill health arrangements, for example a two-tier system whereby those unable to work receive higher pension benefits, targeting benefits to those who have the greatest need. We are aiming to create incentives to encourage employers to invest in prevention, rehabilitation and redeployment and ultimately reduce costs associated with ill health retirements, long-term sick pay and staff turnover
- Changes to the injury benefit scheme
