Equality issues, and ensuring that the new Schemes meet current legislative requirements, have been a core part of the pension review. As part of this work, the review partners have completed an equality impact assessment of the Schemes for both existing and new members. The assessment recognises the work that has already been done as a core part of the review to address equality issues, for example on age and gender, which is reflected in the Scheme changes. However, going forward, it has also identified the need to improve the availability of information, to support the on-going equality impact assessment process. The new Electronic Staff Records (ESR) system, which is currently being rolled out across the NHS, will provide a valuable central database of information that will support this process. Alongside this, the review partners will also need to consider the type of monitoring data that is routinely collected at an organisational level, for example professional groups, that will need to be assessed nationally for equality assessment purposes. The review partners have jointly agreed an action plan to address the remaining key areas identified in the assessment, to support the equality impact process. This will form part of the on-going governance arrangements for the NHS Pension Scheme. Last reviewed 19 Mar 2008 |
