NHS Employers plays a leading role in modernising pay and conditions, having assumed from the Department of Health the responsibility to negotiate with the BMA.
As a result, negotiations are now led by employers in the NHS which should ensure that those areas of greatest concern to the service, on contractual issues, are addressed and workable solutions put in place. Flexible medical training
A new approach to flexible medical training was introduced in June 2005. This recognises the need to integrate an increasingly important mode of training into mainstream medicine.
Foundation Trainees - accommodation
The statutory requirement for Foundation Year 1 doctors to be contractually resident in or conveniently near to the hospital or health centre where they are working ceased from 1 August 2007 when the repeal of ss10 - 13 of the Medical Act 1983 was enacted and the new section 10A came into force.
GP registrars
With effect from 1 April 2008 the Department of Health directed Health Authorities to implement new pay scales for the 2008 salary uplift for GP Registrars as recommended by DDRB.
Dental Trainees in Hospital Posts
NHS Employers has received from the Department of Health a letter giving further guidance on the appointment to hospital SHO posts of dentists who have completed their vocational training year in private practice.
