Any Willing Provider

08/09/2010
This page provides information for NHS trusts on the Any Willing Provider process.

The concept of Any Willing Provider (AWP) is described  in the PCT procurement guide  for routine elective care as “under Free Choice the opportunity for ‘Any Willing Provider’ to supply services and should not be constrained by the commissioner other than in exceptional circumstances.”

The AWP model aims to facilitate a range of providers to be accredited, with particular emphasis on clinical accreditation, without conducting formal tender processes so that patient choice is accommodated.  Once a provider meets the accreditation criteria it will be awarded a standard acute contract.  An AWP process conducted by commissioners may result in many contracts being awarded.
