Stress Management

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Chartered Institute for Personal Development (CIPD) have produced new guidance for HR and Line Managers on 'Line Management Behaviour and Stress at Work'.

There are three documents, which can be down loaded from the HSE and CIPD websites. These are:

  • Guidance for line managers
  • Advice for HR
  • A competency framework for line managers

The guidance based on the HSE Stress Management Standards, sets out the reasons why stress management should be important to line managers and what they can do to prevent and reduce stress. It also sets out a series of management competencies developed as part of ongoing research by HSE/CIPD and has examples of positive and negative management behaviour.

The HR guidance sets out ways in which HR Professionals can assist line managers in developing the skills necessary to implement the stress management standards.
