Bullying and harassment

Over the last few years NHS staff surveys have consistently identified staff-on-staff bullying and harassment as a key issue to address. The NHS has taken strong steps to eliminate this kind of behaviour in the workplace but it is clear that problems persist.

The 2007 survey showed that 8 per cent of staff had experienced bullying, harassment or abuse from their team leader and 13 per cent experienced it from colleagues. Only 52 per cent of staff who experienced incidents of bullying and harassment actually reported it and 17 per cent still did not know how to do so. Only 7 per cent felt that their trust took effective action in cases of bullying and harassment.

If you are a member of staff who is being bullied, please refer to the staff guidance for advice and contacts for help.
