Over the last twelve months NHS Employers has increasingly focused on working with schools, educational institutions and careers advisers. Research with young people shows they believe the NHS is only doctors and nurses; you have to work in a hospital; you have to work long hours and it is badly paid. Our programme of work with students seeks to dispel these myths and inspire them to think about a career in the NHS. On 1 May 2008, final year students ranked the NHS among the top five most attractive employers, equal third alongside MI5, in the Financial Times' top employers rankings. The desire to give something back to society was seen as a factor in this and the FT referenced our work with students as contributing to the popularity of the NHS.
