At www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk students can find out what it's really like working in the NHS, as anything from a clinical psychologist to an electrician, a midwife to an IT analyst. Step into the NHS shows students there are over 350 different careers in the NHS and a wide variety of entry routes; from careers that need no formal qualifications to those needing post-graduate study. If students are not sure which careers interest them, the interactive 'career mapper' quiz will help identify some of the NHS careers which might be suitable. If they join the Step into the NHS programme by registering on the website, students receive a welcome pack, tailored information on the careers that interest they as well as regular communication from NHS Careers, to support them in crucial decision making like subject choices, university courses or entry into work. The new website also includes short films starring young NHS staff. The website also includes:
Leaflets and posters about the Step into the NHS programme are available for trusts, teachers or careers advisers to order. We have developed a new work experience pack so trusts are more able to accept students wishing to have work experience placements. We also have a series of lesson plans which link to Step into the NHS. Last reviewed 12 Feb 2008 |
