As part of Step into the NHS programme, we have developed lesson plans and supporting materials for teachers of year 10 and 11. The lesson plans complement the Step into the NHS programme and encourage young people to explore the website. The real world of the NHS is far more varied than students think and the flexible activities use real life situations to make young learners think about their future lives and careers and use familiar scenarios to bring making decisions to life. The lesson plans use the case studies on Step into the NHS to develop activities to show the range of over 350 career opportunities available in the NHS. The activities are progressive and can be delivered as part of work in Citizenship, PSHE, English, drama, careers guidance and the new Society, Health and Development (SHD) diploma which begins in September 2008 This will encourage students to consider the NHS as their future employer, to modify their GCSE, A-level and degree choices to suit a career in the NHS and to apply for the tens of thousands of training places that need to be filled every year.
