Medical Workforce Programme

 

Part of the role of NHS Employers is to work with employers to help them understand and contribute to changes in the recruitment, training and career structure of the medical workforce. This includes providing advice and guidance to NHS organisations, as well as representing employers' views to policy makers.

NHS Employers is fully engaged with the range of programmes underway to modernise the health professions, the most immediate of which concerns the medical workforce. The sections below outline our key work areas in this arena and provide essential information for employers.

Modernising Medical Careers
Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) is a major reform of postgraduate medical training, devised to improve the quality of patient care through better education and training for doctors. NHS Employers is working with the Department of Health's MMC team and stakeholders to keep you informed about all medical traning issues.

Future of the medical workforce
The future of the medical workforce has been the subject of scrutiny and debate for many years. This section looks at how NHS Employers is influencing this debate and how organisations can get involved.

European Working Time Directive
The deadline for the full implementation of the European Working time Directive (EWTD) is August 2009. This section provides some background information on the regulations and links to key sources of further information and support for employers.

Medical Workforce Forum
The Medical Workforce Forum meets bi-monthly to discuss and share knowledge about topical issues that affects the employment and training of doctors in the NHS.
