Helping NHS trusts to manage their temporary staffing is one of the key priorities for NHS Employers and we will be looking for ways to support trusts in reducing their reliance on temporary nursing staff. Agency spend in the NHS has increased threefold between the years1996/97 and 2003/04 to one and a half billion pounds - over 5 per cent of the NHS pay bill compared with 3 per cent in 1996/97. If we could bring spending back to 1996/97 levels we would potentially save one billion pounds on agency costs. Latest newsCollaboration project - 17 December 2007 Following a successful collaboration between trusts in the north west in 2005, NHS Employers, in partnership with NHS Professionals Doctors, is working with mental health trusts to spread good practice and learning from the project across the NHS. The project is ongoing, both within the collaborative and in setting up further initiatives and we intend to publish learning from the project in 2008. Helping you to implement an effective e-rostering system - 1 October 2007 We have published a guide to help employers successfully implement an e-rostering system to achieve improved workforce productivity. For the first time this will give trusts details of e-rostering systems available, along with the costs and number of trusts actively using them in the UK at present, to help you to make the best decision for your own trust. National agency staffing project - final report - December 2006 The national agency staffing project (NASP), funded by the Department of Health (DH), aimed to reduce agency expenditure in the NHS through the identification and roll-out of good practice.
