Social media has quickly embedded itself within our daily lives. It offers great opportunities for organisations and individuals to listen and have conversations with the people they wish to influence.

  • Facebook first took to the world wide web on February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum and Chris Hughes
  • Today, Facebook has over 1.71 billion active users, 4.5 billion likes generated daily and 1.57 billion mobile active users
  • In 2011, YouTube had received more than 1 trillion views – around 140 views for every person on Earth.
  • There are 313 million active Twitter accounts worldwide - over 12.4 million of these are in the UK that's 19% proportion of the UK’s 65 million population

  • Instagram has 500 million daily active users with 14 million being in the UK

  • Instagram has a much younger audience, 39% of its UK users are aged 16-24
